LYKN member Lego has been ordained into monkhood, in a ceremony witnessed by fellow group members, as well as family, friends and colleagues from the industry.

Lego’s monastic name following his ordination is Phra Rapeepong Dhammavangso, meaning “of the lineage of Dhamma”.

His ordination ceremony took place on 19 February, days after his 20th birthday on 11 February.

The ceremony was attended by LYKN members William, Tui, Nut and Hong, as well as former trainees from Project Alpha, the idol survival show which gave rise to LYKN.

GMMTV released photos of the newly-ordained Phra Rapeepong, including one with his LYKN groupmates.

The ordination into monkhood is seen as a coming-of-age rite of passage for Thai males when they turn 20. While it is traditionally expected of the males, it is not a mandatory order.

Males also choose to enter monkhood to earn merit for themselves, their families and the wider community. The period of monkhood can range from several days to months.
