Following the release of nominees for this year’s T-Pop Of The Year (TOTY) Music Awards, some fans have questioned the selection criteria of the awards show.

The category for album packaging of the year drew online scrutiny in particular, with users on X (formerly known as Twitter) wondering what the basis of judging was.

A user who goes by the username @umymindd posted on 21 March – the same day nominations were released – about the awards, singling out the album packaging category.

The user cites two other pop groups – PiXXiE and Proxie – whose album packaging they felt was worthy of being nominated.

“You look at this artwork…and how can it not compete?” the user asks.

The post has since been reshared more than 7,000 times, with several other X users chiming in, and echoing her sentiments over what the judging criteria was.

Some users agreed that PiXXiE was missing from the wider nominations this year, while others felt album packaging designs by artistes like MILLI and Billkin were also worthy of being nominated.

Some X users also pushed back on the original poster’s allegations, prompting the user to double down that while they respected those nominated, “I really just wanted to know the criteria”.

“Why? Because I feel other bands are also deserving (of being nominated),” the user adds.

This year’s TOTY Music Awards will be held on 26 March. The nominees for Artiste of the Year (Group) include 4EVE, Three Man Down, Solitude is Bliss, DEPT and The Darkest Romance. MV of the Year nominees also feature 4EVE’s Vroom Vroom as well as YoungOhm’s ธาตุทองซาวด์.
