Rapper Sprite is facing legal action from his former label over an alleged breach of contract.
The unnamed label is suing the 18-year-old (whose full name is Sukkonlawat Pucsombat) for an unprecedented 14 million THB, according to his lawyer ‘James’ LK, who first disclosed the lawsuit in a Facebook post.
The lawyer also says summons were issued not just for Sprite, but also for his three other family members – his parents and younger brother. The lawsuit centres around Sprite having cancelled his contract with the label before he became famous.
Sprite, who is currently signed to Hype Train Records, has not publicly commented on the lawsuit. He was last seen in the US with his label performing at the Sabaidee Festival in California.
His lawyer writes on Facebook: “Sprite is one of the youngest rappers in Thailand, and it’s rare for an artiste to make it to the Billboard charts.” He was referring to ทน, which features Sprite and fellow hiphop artiste Guygeegee and has notched over 420 million views on Youtube.
James (the lawyer) adds that this was the first time he has taken on a lawsuit “with such high damages sought”.
