New music this week: 22-28 July

1. เจ้านายคะ (work-life imbalance) – Bowkylion

It’s Bowkylion’s comeback single – and one that we can all relate to. In the lead-up to the release of Work-Life Imbalance, the What The Duck star sent out letters (looking like employment contracts) to other labels, urging them to take time off to look out for the release. Well played indeed.

2. Too L8 – Empress

Empress – the girl group from Rising Entertainment – are finally back with their follow-up single, riding on the viral popularity of their debut Blah Blah Blah. While not as dance-heavy as their first single, Too L8 is still a bop, topped up with rap lines that are absolutely on fire.

3. ปิดการมองเห็น (mute) – Ironboy

Reinventing himself is Ironboy, the stage name for Enan Sirisak, who won the first season of rap reality programme The Rapper in 2018. His latest single is targetted at the Gen Z listener, talking about not being able to accept that an ex has moved on, to the extend of “muting” all channels. True to his talent, Ironboy took all of 40 minutes to compose this track.

4. โกหกเธอทั้งนั้น (Pinocchio) – Serious Bacon

Serious Bacon are mostly known for their cute (and mostly feel-good) tracks, so โกหกเธอทั้งนั้น (Pinocchio) feels like a shift in style for the duo. The beautifully-shot music video speaks of having to hide and lie (hence Pinocchio!) true feelings between friends, because they are afraid that going going beyond friendship into love will destroy the relationship.

5. สาย | Gone – Nene

Nene’s newest track is what quiet strength sounds like. A song that ponders when is too late to say ‘I love you’, Gone showcases Nene’s vocals nicely – from the mellow introduction, right into the soaring chorus.
