Pop Pongkool has announced he would be leaving GMM Music, after spending 20 years as an artiste.

The 41-year-old White Music artiste, who gave us recent hits like สลักจิต (collaborating with Da Endorphine) and เวลา, put out a heartfelt post on his social media channels on 16 August to announce his departure.

Saying it was “not an easy post” to write, Pop says that it had been an “amazing” 20 years with the label.

“For a record company of this calibre to invest in a singer with negative capital like me, it means a lot to me,” he says.

Still, he believes his time is up: “If it were a marathon, I think I would have gone through every stage.”

Staying with the running metaphor, Pop writes: “(One) day…the sound of birds and trees along the way began to fade. When I slowed down my pace, it was quiet and I could not hear anything anymore. I went to talk to (GMM Music) and said that I would stop running marathons with them. I will go jogging (on my own) to find my birds and trees.”

The post drew an outpouring of love and sympathy from fellow artistes and fans. Joey Phuwasit, who collaborated with Pop for the hit เดือนชนเดือน, wrote: “Love you, Pop”, while Oat Pramote, with whom Pop has worked with on several occasions, said: “Starting over is fun in a different way.”

Pop will be performing with Oat for the second edition of the ตัน FIGHT ตัน variety concert in September.
