Singer-actor NuNew has made his debut on the Japanese Youtube channel The First Take, becoming the second Thai performer to do so on the popular music show.
The DMD Music artiste appeared on episode 510 of the show, which aired on 20 January, performing his 2023 track หมอนอิง (Anything). The 4min 33sec video attracted more than 90,000 views in its first 24 hours.
The First Take – created by Sony Music Japan – invites artistes to perform a song in a single take (hence its name). While it mostly features Japanese artistes from across the musical spectrum, it occasionally invites international artistes.
NuNew’s appearance comes more than a year after Thai rapper CDGuntee, who made two videos with the channel in 2023.
Writing on X, NuNew said he had been keeping his appearance on the show “a secret for a long time”, adding that it was “not easy” to get a spot on the show.
“I’ve been watching this show since before I entered the industry. I am so happy (to finally be on it),” he wrote.
Indeed, in the lead up to the video, the hashtag #TheFirstTakeByNuNew trended on X, as fans cheered on the singer.
The appearance on The First Take also comes as NuNew gains popularity in Japan. In November, he released his debut Japanese single First Date in Shibuya. This was followed by a one-night-only showcase in Tokyo in December.
