Several events and concerts taking place in Bangkok this weekend will be cancelled, after the capital was hit by a series of severe tremors from a nearby earthquake.

Entertainment companies – including record labels – have also postponed new releases originally slated for the weekend, following the incident.

The country declared Bangkok a disaster zone, following the earthquake, which happened on the afternoon of 28 March. An earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale struck in Myanmar, with tremors felt in most parts of Thailand.

Cocktail, whose highly-anticipated farewell concert takes place on 30 and 31 March at Rajamangala Stadium, acknowledged inquiries about the status of the concert.

The Gene Lab band says engineering teams will be allowed to enter the stadium for structural inspections. Given the size of the venue, as well as the projected crowd size, the inspections will take time, and Cocktail says they will be making an update on the status of the concert by noon on 29 March.

“The team prioritises the welfare and safety of all attendees (for the concert). You will be notified immediately if there are any changes to the schedule,” the band adds.

Sonray Music group DICE and sister group MXFRUIT (from ILYLAB) jointly announced the cancellation of their Bang! Your Heart Busking showcase on 29 March, which would have taken place in Future Park Rangsit and in centralwOrld.

Meanwhile, GMMTV said it was cancelling all artiste activities on 28 March for safety reasons. A number of artistes were slated to appear at the Bangkok International Book Fair from 28 March.

The company also said it would be postpone the airing of new episodes of its series Sweet Tooth Good Dentist, along with delaying the release of one of the series’ OSTs.

LiT Entertainment, meanwhile, says it would be postponing indefinitely all new content releases “until the situation is resolved”.

At least one event on 29 March will be taking place as usual, though it is held outside of Bangkok. Cool Summer Fest, organised by radio station Cool Fahrenheit, takes place in Cha-Am.

Organisers said the event, featuring acts like Proxie and The Toys, will carry on as planned, as the venue has not been affected by the quake.

This story has been updated with additional information about event cancellations.
