Proxie released their latest single Bad Shawty in time for the Songkran festivities, sampling a Y2K banger that some millennials may find all too familiar.

The F.HERO-produced track samples Dragostea Din Tei – also known to some as the ‘Numa Numa’ song – heavily: right off the bat, the iconic ‘Ma Ya Hi’ yodel from the original track is heard loud and clear.

Much of the chorus samples the tune of Dragostea Din Tei too, overlayed with distinctive Thai instruments and a catchy electro-dance beat.

Dragostea Din Tei is the campy worldwide hit from Moldovan pop group O-zone, released in 2003. (Yes, that makes the original song as old as Proxie members Chokun and Gorn!) The song has since been covered and sampled by numerous artistes around the world.

In the lead-up to the single’s release, Proxie teased the song’s hook, which – you guessed it – featured the iconic Dragostea Din Tei samples, piquing fans’ interest in the new single.
