Open Label’s Daou and Offroad have publicly apologised following fan backlash for a skit during a fan screening of the new thriller Girl From Nowhere: The Reset.
The singer-actors said in separate statements they regretted their actions, which some fans have called out as being “insensitive” towards females. The skit took place at the screening of the second episode of Girl From Nowhere: The Reset on 14 March.
Offroad is featured in the series, which is screened on one31 and globally on Netflix. The series’ main character is Nanno, played by popular actress Becky Rebecca Armstrong.
During the skit, Offroad – dressed as his high school character Peck – is on stage with Daou, who dresses in female high school attire as the lead character Nanno.
In one part of the skit, Daou is seen lifting up his skirt, a reference to the upskirt theme in the show’s second episode. The act is repeated a second time, this time with Offroad mimicking taking an upskirt photo (similar to what his character does on the show).
The footage – circulated on social media – led to intense discussion among fans: many called them out for the inappropriate and insensitive acts, which left some uncomfortable.
Daou in his statement says the idea to dress as lead character Nanno was to surprise Offroad.
I want to sincerely apologize for the scene in the clip where I was dressed as Nanno from Girl From Nowhere.
