With 13 members, Zolar is one of T-Pop’s largest groups.
Comprising members Blue, Deenan, Euro, Fogus, Fum, Graphic, Joker, Khupt, Krit, Mann, Pann, Paul and Tae, the group made its debut in 2023 – in a burst of effervescent orange – with their first single Girl-Friend.
By 2024, it amassed an international following, with fans hailing from as far as South America. The group’s latest single ยาวไป! (Move It) quickly became a viral hit, blending together pop and Isaan-style instruments, and topped off with an iconic chorus.
The group recently announced their first of what could be several sub-units – Jupiter. The sub-unit brings together four Zolar members (Khupt, Pann, Paul and Tae) with the single เราไม่ได้เป็นอะไรกัน (Undeletable).
ChaPop speaks to Zolar, who hint that more sub-units are on their way, and the possibility of a world tour and big concert in the long term.
How did Zolar come about?
Joker: We come from two companies, Muzik Move and Search Entertainment. We went through the auditions called Star Search Idol, and we did many training sessions like singing and dancing for around 2 years. Then we debut as Zolar in 2023, with our debut song Girl-Friend.
You are one of the largest T-Pop groups with 13 members – how do you balance each others’ personalities?
Tae: Everyone balances each other…we just mix and match everyone’s personalities, and it becomes something that blends in together quite well. I think everyone fits in with each other, this is what makes Zolar what we are today.
What is your favourite part about making music?
Mann: My favourite part is, and I think our favourite part, is when we write lyrics together. We (get to) know each other from every lyrics we write, because it’s from personal experience. I think when we do something together, it’s always fun. When we are together it’s about chaos, and chaos is always fun!
You had viral success with ยาวไป! (Move It) – how did that make you feel? Could you talk more about the song and what was the inspiration for it?
Paul: We feel really grateful that we went viral for this song. What really inspired us for this song is that we wanted to bring Thai instruments and Thai culture through our music.
How did the sub-unit Jupiter come about?
Khupt: The unit Jupiter came about because we want to bring out the character of each member and we wanted to combine all the main vocals in Zolar. We want to show something new, because Zolar has never done like this before – this is the first time (with sub-units).
Will there be more sub-units in store? Any hints on what to expect?
Blue: We have already announced our first sub-unit Jupiter, so of course we will release more sub-units, but we will let you take a guess how many members there will be. Please stay tuned!
What’s next for Zolar?
Krit: So in our previous songs, we included various types of music, some of which are slow, some of which are fast…and in our single ยาวไป! (Move It), it also included the Isaan style of music. So we try to incorporate to make new things. Maybe a new genre of music is going to appear in the future.
Can we expect a big concert from the group soon?
Deenan: This one I cannot tell you guys completely – follow us and look for updates. Very soon we will go for world tours and maybe we might have some big concerts in places like Brazil. See you guys soon!
