ILY LAB girl group MXFRUIT will disband by the end of the year, capping off a musical career of more than two years and surprising many fans with the decision.

The five members will end all group activities on 31 December, says the label in a statement on 6 August.

ILY LAB – the sister label to Sonray Music – says: “After careful consideration, the five members of MXFRUIT have collectively decided to conclude all group activities…in order to pursue new paths that align with their individual goals and aspirations.”

In the lead-up to their disbandment, MXFRUIT will be releasing a final single, and hold a farewell concert “featuring a special performance of all their songs”. Details of the single and concert will be announced at a later date.

“Over the past two years, the five members of MXFRUIT have created countless memorable moments together through their love for music, their dedication, and the joy they have always wished to share with everyone,” the group states.

“However, every journey brings change,” MXFRUIT adds.

On social media, fans expressed surprise – and sadness – at the news, with some noting that the group had only been around for two years. Still, many said they respected the members’ decision, and sent their well-wishes.

MXFRUIT made their debut in March 2023 with the English-language single Strawberry Ice Cream. Since then, the group has released eight other singles.
