They were once the princelings of modern Thai pop-rock who sang the soundtrack of heartbreak.
What started as a group of three like-minded high school friends soon grew into a household name: Only Monday.
Then everything came crashing down as the band was hit by a string of controversies. The latest – involving an alleged leak of explicit photos – dealt the group an unprecedented blow, with all engagements cancelled and all music pulled from streaming platforms.
The fate of the Gene Lab band remains unclear for now as the label investigates the matter.
It marks a sudden end for a band whose star power was growing rapidly: in 2025, Only Monday held their first concert at Thunder Dome. At this year’s Big Mountain Music Festival, they were also slated to perform at the festival’s flagship stage, an arena traditionally reserved for veterans like Bodyslam, Three Man Down and Potato.
ChaPop looks at the rise and subsequent fall of Only Monday.
The band started in high school, when three friends – Tee Teepakorn, Frame Katawut and Prod Varis – joined the band at the Royal Thai Air Force School of Music.
It was there that the Only Monday name came about: being one of the new kids on the block, the trio were only allowed to use to band practice room on Mondays.
Yet, that did not deter the band, as they took on cover performances, and posted clips of themselves on Youtube. Only Monday also experimented with creating their own music.
This caught the eye of GMM Music executives, who gave the band the opportunity to participate in 2020’s GMM Auditions.
Out of over 2,400 applicants, Only Monday made the cut to the top 30 acts. (Fun fact: the same audition also saw bands like The White Hair Cut and ASIA7 take part)
Thereafter, they were invited by Gene Lab head honcho Ohm Pantaphon (Ohm from Cocktail) to join the label in 2021.
The same year will see the band release their first break-out hitได้แต่นึกถึง – marking the start of their heartbreak-rock era.
A year later, the trio followed up with an even bigger smash hit – ไม่เป็นไรหรอกมั้ง – a heartbreaking song about the grief after a farewell. the track smashed trending records after its release, propelling the band into greater heights. It also sealed the band’s status as the new voice of the heartbroken.
Indeed, 2022 would also prove to be a good year for Only Monday: it released the upbeat smash ทิ้งไป, with its iconic introduction and poignant music video. It also put out its first album – also named Only Monday – during the same year.
Through 2023 and 2024, the band continued to release a string of hits, including the (very) emotional tracks April and จดจำ
Their ascending star power culminated in their first-ever concert in 2025: We Are Only Monday was indeed a long time coming for the band.
However, a string of controversies would hit in 2025 as well. Fresh off a concert high, Tee in July would face allegations he had cheated on his ex-girlfriend ‘Bell’ on more than 10 occasions while they were together.
He later apologised for his shortcomings, and the band emerged from the controversy relatively unscathed.
However, the relief would be shortlived following the latest scandal, which has essentially sucked all the wind out of the band’s sails.
For now, the trio are laying low as investigations continue. It remains to be seen if the voice of the heartbroken will be able to make a comeback successfully.
