The October Theory talks about October being a time for change – bidding farewell to things no longer important – even if it hurts – in order to start anew.
Little wonder then, that singer-songwriter guncharlie’s first big concert is named after this viral theory.
On 17 October, the ‘Prince of Heartbreak’ held the guncharlie October Theory concert, taking fans on a journey through melancholy and heartbreak, before emerging with new hope.
And over the course of over three hours, the singer-songwriter pulled out all the stops for the concert, stacking the line-up with hit upon hit (and a couple of hidden gems) and guest performers.
Fans were also treated to snippets of his childhood, as well as stories – plenty of them – from his days in university.
It’s also quite on-brand, given guncharlie’s talent for storytelling through music.
The concert kicks off with a string of sad songs, including the popular กลับไปใช้ชีวิตแบบเดิม. guncharlie also treated fans to his own take on the BUS because of you I shine track ดีใจที่ไม่มีเธอ (happy) – a track he co-wrote – adding his own melancholic flavour to the track.
Special guests for the night included labelmates fellow fellow and whateve (who we learnt was schoolmates with guncharlie way back in elementary school).
The highly-anticipated guest for the night, however, was none other than up-and-comer indie-pop band Purpeech. guncharlie joined the band on stage for the latter’s popular heartbreak anthem กลัวว่าฉันจะไม่เสียใจ (Fear), eliciting cheers from fans.
There was more to cheer about: at the concert, guncharlie and Purpeech (informally) promised to collaborate officially on new music. We’ll be on the lookout for that!
guncharlie also performed live for the first time a new single that would be released on 1 December. คืนคำ will see guncharlie work with (for the first time) Ink Waruntorn.
Still, the concert was about guncharlie – and he made sure he maximised his chances to do so.
He surprised fans mid-concert by appearing at a smaller stage at the centre of the hall, regaling fans with stories, and performing early hits ศูนย์คูณอะไรก็ได้ศูนย์ and สถานะคนขับรถ.
The intimate, acoustic setting also saw guncharlie perform ตุ๊กตาหิมะ (Winter is going), a lesser-known single symbolising enduring love through the seasons, as well as a folk-indie track ใต้เปลือกตา (See you anytime).
Fans also got to see the rock side of guncharlie, as he performed a jawdropping drum solo later in his set, showcasing his multiple talents.
The concert concludes with two of guncharlie’s most well-loved hits: เผื่อวันไหนจะกลับมา and จากกันโดยสมบูรณ์.
Indeed, it has been a long time coming for the Kicks Records soloist, who made waves with his brand of melancholic melody since bursting into the scene in 2022.
As fans left the concert on the rainy October evening, the message was clear: the October Theory is not just about breaking up being the end, but an opening to grow – and move on – into a new chapter.
