Violette Wautier will be taking an indefinite hiatus after losing her voice and is seeking treatment.

In a long message to fans – written in Thai and English – on 16 March, Universal Music Thailand soloist revealed her diagnosis of muscular tension dysphonia.

Muscular tension dysphonia is a vocal disorder caused by excessive tension or imbalance of the muscles in and around the voice box. It is triggered by factors such as stress and misuse of vocal muscles, but can be treated with vocal therapy.

In her statement, Violette says she is “taking a step back” to care for her health.

She acknowledges having to cope with “vocal problems” for about a year, adding that “losing my voice has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever experienced”.

Violette adds: “It sometimes feels like I’m losing my identity, and it has taken a heavy toll on my mind and heart.

“I’m still learning how to sit with it, to take life moment by moment, and to trust that things will slowly unfold the way they’re meant to,” she says.

“Singing has been both beautiful and heartbreaking for me lately. My heart breaks into a million pieces when I try to sing,” Violette adds.

Nonetheless, she is taking the matter in her stride, adding that she has been “writing my feelings”, hinting at “a few songs in my pocket”.

Separately, Universal Music Thailand confirms Violette’s health diagnosis, adding that she has been advised to rest on doctors’ advice. Consequently, she would be missing the upcoming N-POP Concert Festival on 21 March, while she recovers.
