Record giant GMM Music has unveiled BLKGEM, its newest “art of entertainment” academy that aims to elevate the Thai entertainment sector.

The academy is a joint effort by GMM Music as well as renown Bangkok dance studio Harlem Shake Studios and is led by Harlem Shake founder and creative director ‘JDa’ Apissara Phetruengrong.

The academy was launched on 25 April, at a star-studded press conference attended by T-Pop artistes both within and outside GMM Grammy. These include PERSES and VIIS (GNEST), ALALA (White Fox Music), as well as ‘Jaylerr’ Kritsanapoom and ‘Thanaerng’ Kanyawee (QOW Entertainment).

BLKGEM will focus on two key areas: an artiste academy to groom new talent, as well as an institute for members of the public to take up courses in areas like songwriting, vocal training or dancing.

It also touts “powerful partnerships”, including the various sub-labels in the GMM Music umbrella, as well as with labels outside of Thailand, such as in South Korea, Japan and China.

“(We) believe that we will be able to create personnel – both in front and behind the scenes of the Thai (performing) industry – who meet international standards,” the company states.
