Imagine a talent search programme where the contestants’ identities are obscured by masks and hoodies – and no one knows how the judges look like because they too, are in the same attire.
This is how 19Lab, the newest talent search show from GMM Music, will be like when it airs on 3 July.
Revealing more details into the talent show, GMM Music on 19 June (a coincidental date, perhaps) says 91 contestants will participate in the show, where only 19 will make it to the next round.
At the end of the day, only five ‘winners’ will be selected, and will be given contracts under a new, yet-unnamed label under GMM Music.
Keeping to the anonymous theme, contestants are only identified by numbers (1-91), and will wear black masks and hoodies. The judges too are kept anonymous to the viewers, and according to show producers, there will be 91 judges, all dressed in white.
According to 19Lab’s social media accounts, auditions for the programme took place earlier this year.
The show format is believed to be the first of its kind in Thailand, since most talent search programmes reveal the identities of contestants and judges early in the programme.
When the show’s trailer was revealed on 19 June, social media users were impressed by the show format, saying this was a break from the usual programme style.
One even commented: “It’s like Squid Game“, referencing the wildly-popular South Korean television series.
