GNEST girl group VIIS performed at first show abroad, following their appearance at the Golden Melody Awards and Festival in Taipei.
The five-member group performed on 25 June as part of the festival segment of the awards ceremony, singing a mix of their hits and covers of Mandopop and K-Pop tracks, much to the surprise of the audience.
VIIS kicked off their segment with their current smash hit Mirror Mirror, eliciting the loudest screams during the song’s dance break. They also wowed the crowd with two special covers: Taiwanese singer Eric Chou’s Unbreakable Love, as well as K-Pop group NCT U‘s Make a Wish.
The cover of Chou’s song saw the girls sing in Mandarin, which we hear came with plenty of practice beforehand.
On social media, the group says: “This is our first time performing on an international stage, and we couldn’t be happier. Thanks to all our Taiwanese fans for being super sweet and supportive.”
VIIS is one of the two Thai acts at the event, with the other being GeneLab group Asia7.
This year’s Golden Melody Awards – dubbed the Grammys of the Mandopop world – will be held on 29 June in Taipei.
