It was a fun evening for T-pop fans last weekend, as seven currently trending groups took over the Union Hall, for the first edition of Gotcha Pop Concert.
The concert conceptually drew its inspiration from the popular toy-vending machine ‘gachapon’, which also rhymes with its name. Unlike other music festivals where the set list is made known to public in advance, the audience only found out who will be performing next at that very instance.
Fans held their breath in suspense seven times, as they trained their eyes on the screen anticipating the next artiste to perform, as if it there were playing a ‘gachapon’ – you never know what you will get next.
LYKN fans lucky to have gone first
Marking the group’s first few concert appearance since their debut, the five members on the night proved why they were the chosen ones from Project Alpha. Their energetic performance of their hits such as UMM UMM and เลิกกับเขาเดี๋ยวเหงาเป็นเพื่อน (MAY I ?) got the crowd screaming throughout their 40-minutes set.
PERSES powered on
PERSES wasted no time with an energetic opening of My Time. The good-looking members then went on a charm offensive, especially when they sang crowd-favourite น่ารักน้อยลงหน่อย (Cuteless). The GNEST group also took the opportunity to introduce fellow labelmates VIIS, the surprise act for the night. VIIS went on to sing their debut single Barbie (Oops! Oops!).
ATLAS fans roared
ATLAS got fans screaming throughout their repertoire of hits such as คุยแก้เหงา (Mr. Lonely), Mayday Mayday and โลเล (Lolay). The seven-members group also teased their new single Mangosteen, which looks set to smash the airwaves in the coming weeks.
No silent mode for PROXIE
The group has been kept busy recently with the release of their first full album Data Storage and also their first anniversary concert. They thus took the chance to showcase some tracks from the new album such as ที่ไม่รัก (Unnoticed) and เจ็บอยู่ (Hurting). Still, no one kept silent when they performed the popular hit คนไม่คุย (Silent Mode).
Trinity melted hearts
The longest established boy group at the concert proves that they still have what it takes to steal the hearts of their fans. Performing their hits such Hidden Track and I Don’t Miss You, the three-member group from 4NOLOGUE were quite a charm on the evening.
LAZ1 but not least
The five-member band which recently disbanded, drew loud cheers, as they walked down memory lane with their hits ถ้าจูบได้เพียงหนึ่งครั้ง (Last Kiss) and ไม่ตอบเลยน้า (What’s The Matter ?).
They also performed a surprise set together with PERSES, where both groups did a cover of Mark Ronson’s Uptown Funk.
4EVE forever
The wait that felt like forever finally ended when the girl-group entered and opened with 4EVER. Singing hits after hits such as หยดน้ำตา (Tears) and วัดปะหล่ะ? (Test Me), the group proves that they are THE girl group of the moment. Despite being late into the evening, fans were treated to another surprise when Atlas joined them for their song Bomb!.
It was no doubt a fun evening for ChaPop and fans of T-pop, though the overruns had sapped the enthusiastic energy especially of fans who were there only for the latter groups.
ChaPop wonders who will remain, and which new groups will appear at the next edition of Gotcha Pop Concert.
