Rapper Maiyarap has announced his departure from YUPP! Entertainment, but will continue work as an independent artiste.
In a statement on 8 July, YUPP! says that the 28-year-old ended his contract effective immediately. Maiyarap has been with the label since its founding in 2018.
Reposting the statement, Maiyarap says he has “learned a lot of things” in his years as a YUPP! artiste. “I am also healed. Thank you for everything,” he writes.
He adds that this is not the end of his work: “There are more songs and other things that I want you all to listen to.”
YUPP!, on its part, says it will continue to supervise any unfinished work that Maiyarap has with the label.
“We wish Maiyarap success on his future path,” the label writes.
On social media, several artistes – like Zom Marie and 4EVE member Fai – came out in a show of support. Former label-mate Milli, who competed against him in the reality show The Rapper 2, adds: “Grow in the way you like – I’m always here for you, big brother.”
Maiyarap shot to fame after winning The Rapper 2, which also saw a strong slate of other contestants like Autta, NAMENT and Saran.
