Thai alternative band Tilly Birds are set to make their comeback with the English-language track White Pills.
The track, which is the band’s first single for 2024, is due to be released on 9 April. The song name was revealed on 6 April, and a 40-second teaser was posted on the band’s social media pages a day later.
The clip opens with a male voice saying: “Well, I guess you’re my ghost.” We get a glimpses of gloomy, melancholic shots before voices start saying “next to nothing”.
It then cuts to frontman ‘Third’ Anuroth Ketlekha singing: “Next to nothing.”
Tilly Birds, which has been touring most of Asia and Australia in recent months, has long talked up plans to release a full English album. The band had started in the early 2010s with English songs, before switching to recording Thai songs in 2017.
In March 2023, ‘Third’ told an audience at the T-Pop Of The Year Music Awards that a “full English album” was in the works. “We think we are ready for the world,” he said.
As the band toured various cities in Asia, including in Singapore, Manila and Jakarta, it also confirmed the new English album would be produced.
Prior to the English album, the band’s last album release was in 2021, with It’s Gonna Be OK. Their last single was in 2023, where they covered Paradox’s ปลายสายรุ้ง as part of GMM Grammy’s 40th anniversary project.
